it does take some time for them to get used to being alone. i still leave the tv on for oz when i leave and he is 2 years old, lol. the only other thing i can suggest is to get a kong toy and put some small treats in it so it gives your baby an activity while you are gone. also when oz was a baby, for the first few months we got one of those plug ins that had momma dog phermones in it. it really seemed to help oz relax. you may want to give that a try.

I have always found that my dogs are better behaved when I'm alone if they are crated with a blanket over the crate. . . it simulates a "den" and makes them feel confined and secure.

Lolly and Cash now get free run of the house since they can occupy each other, but Poe is still crated (or put in 'her room". . . she's a big girl though, I'd say a crate should be just fine for a Tzu) whenever someone cannot be with her.

I agree with the crate...BUT, she has to be comfortable in the crate even when you ARE there for her to be comfortable when you are not. So, you need to do crate training, make it a pleasant experience for her with treats, or even giving her her meal while inside....there are a bunch of threads about crate training and how to do it, if you are not already. Hope things get better....OH, and it may just have been a brief whine/cry....that you mom happened to catch. It doesn't necessarily mean she had been whining or crying the entire time you were gone.

I am going thru this with Tonka right now. He is 18 weeks old. I tried doing the crate thing but he screams so loud I can hear him in the middle of the complex parking lot!! He doesn't stop either it has gone on for over an hour at one point. I can't have him making noise like that especially now with all this stuff going on with the DM. He was never crated and it didn't work for us so I use a baby gate in my bedroom doorway. He has the TV, water, pee pad, and tons of toys. I give him a jerky treat before I leave and he was being quiet but the last few times I left him I came back up to the apartment and he was barking but at least it wasn't screaming. I don't leave a lot so that's part of the problem I think. I gave him a lid with peanut butter in it with his food stuck to it one time. That seem to help. I don't have a lot of shopping options here to get toys so I used the lid off the pan spray to make it. It did work.

I am not sure what a baby port cot is. Is it like a playpen? Are the sides mesh fabric? Since she's a young puppy, she may chew on the mesh. It could be a safety hazard. An x-pen may work better. Right now, she can only hold her bladder for two, maybe, three hours. You will need pee pads or something for her to relieve herself on if you're gone for 4 hours now. She's still very young, try to tire her out before you leave. Take her on a long walk, or, play with her awhile, right before leaving. Hopefully, she will sleep then, while you're gone for a short time. Eventually, Jazz will adjust to your routine. smile.gif
